Global Arts: Five cultures; Five moments
Dr. Paludan from the lesson plan: "I will be interested to read your discussion responses both on your perspectives on the arts in America today and your views of What Is Art For? Through the use of the basic human experiences I propose and the rich food for thought from our textbooks. We will use these resources as a “common language” as we look at five different art forms of five cultures circling the globe. The five art forms we will examine are:
- sensing the pulse of community in Africa through its Dance and Storytelling
- learning to laugh in Japanese—through Kyogen, the classical comic theatre of Japan
- listening to the Middle East in the still small voice of the poet, Rumi
- feeling the soul of Ireland through its music
-seeing the continuity of life and death in Mexico through the eyes of visual arts and folk culture "
